No matter where in the world you are, it’s safe to say you’re probably looking forward to wishing 2020 a not-so-fond farewell in a few days.
And despite not being able to gather with our friends and family this year, you can still pop some bubbly wherever you are (or get into bed early and forget the whole year ever happened; no judgment).
We’re looking forward to saying “goodbye” to the chaos of 2020 and welcoming a clean slate that 2021 brings.
Let’s not get too sentimental, but we should be proud! We survived a lot this year. And we triumphed a lot. The start of 2020 brought the strangest year yet for many of us, with the biggest pandemic the world has seen. But in 2020 we also rallied together (safely) and elected a new President of the United States.
In 2021, we’re looking forward to the positive changes 2020 taught us that we need to make. This new year, it’s all about strength.
So, splurge on that extra fancy bottle, get some takeout and celebrate a little this New Year’s Eve. Reward yourself for surviving 2020 (even if that’s “all” you did, that’s a huge accomplishment).
Let’s kick off 2021 the right way: by being grateful, always looking forward, being PROUD of yourself, and supporting the people around you.
Be grateful for what you have and for what 2020 taught you. Can you think of one thing you’re proud of from this past year? Maybe you learned to cook a new dish. Maybe you took a staycation and did absolutely nothing (and recharged!). Whatever 2020 taught you, be grateful for the lessons you can pull from it.
Look forward to better days and allow your lessons from 2020 to guide you forward. And of course, be proud of yourself for having the courage to continue onwards into the unknown. The new year can bring a clean slate, but sometimes that’s intimidating. Keep fighting!
And finally, say a massive THANKS to your support network and the people around you. Did you have any special conversations on Zoom this year? Did you take up social distanced walking with a neighbor or play chess online with your parents? Whoever was cheering you on could probably also use some encouragement, so take a few moments to say “thanks” to those people.
This year is a special one because no matter where you are in the world, you know that people are staying home and are almost 100% reflecting on what this past year had in store for them.
Everyone’s journey through 2020 has been different than anything we’ve ever experienced before, which is something we can say for sure.
Whether you’re taking the night off and going to bed early, or staying up to ring in a clean slate and promising New Year, be sure to spend some time reflecting.
Your year was unique, as it always is. But I think we can all agree that 2020 was a different breed of “different”.
So, here’s to 2021 and the new beginning it brings! Thanks for tagging along for the ride, we wouldn’t have wanted to share it with anyone else but you 😉
