We are resolving to step up our style in 2016 and this season it’s all about the perfect accessory with a surprising twist. Big or small, you need to have the right piece to take your look to the next level. In search of the best trends, we swept the Spring 2016 runways so you didn’t have to — check out our favorite trends from top designers around the world.
1. Collars
Last year, the choker ruled the runway, but this year we’ve seen a slight change to the old-school style. Designers have loosed up the hold, and dropped the necklace a few inches to the collarbone. We’ve mostly seen pieces in this look to make a statement themselves. With pendants, gemstone embellishments or a central stone, these pieces are typically unique in design.
We saw the look in the Spring 2016 collection from Dior, Valentino and Bottega Vaneta. Our personal favorite was the unique collar from Bottega Veneta. We loved the casual, abstract camo prints combined with the urban-looking collar.
2. Modern Metal
Chains were a major trend in 2014 and 2015, but now the look is expanding to even more metal looks. The runway was full of buckles, chains and locks, taking the chain trend away from 80s’glam to an edgier style. This looks is tough with an edge of urban cool.
We saw chains and locks from Alexander Wang, buckles from Balenciaga and chains from Chanel. Our favorite look was from Chanel. The retro skirt suit was transported to the future with the metallic colors and, of course, the three-layer chain choker.
3. Length and Lariats
Layering has lengthened for 2016. Take your favorite layering techniques to the present by adding a bit of length to your favorite pendants. This trend is also the perfect chance to make a statement. Try an oversized pendant on a long chain, like we saw at Givenchy S/S 2016.
The look was interpreted by Calvin Klein, Chloe and Givenchy in their own variations, but Calvin Klein was our favorite. The Calvin Klein Collection was overall flowing and relaxed with a minimalist vibe. If that sounds like your style, then you’ll want to accessorize with a necklace that feels the same way, like a long, thin chain with one or two small pendants for a breezy look.
4. Baroque Beauty
Fall 2015, saw an upsurge in Baroque styles on the runway and the trend is transitioning into spring 2016. Overly embellished designs of pearls and filigree made it to the runway as well as a few more minimalist looks. The baroque style was also updated to meet the modern trends. Gucci took on the single earring trend with a long, baroque-style earring worn only on one ear.
We also the look from Alexander Wang with a darker twist and a sweeter springtime look from Balenciaga. Our favorite was from Gucci. The show was filled with a vintage and antique ornateness that carried over to the jewelry too. We loved the embellished and oversized chandelier earrings in baroque style.
Bangles are Back
Last year layering ruled and that translated to bracelet stacks. Now, it’s all about the statement bangle — stacking not necessary. We saw abstract designs from Celine and ornate bangles from Chloe. However, large and bold geometric bangles stacked still ruled the runways.
We saw this trend from Ralph Lauren, Marni and Isabel Marant. Our favorite was from Ralph Lauren. We loved the mono-toned look with a twist of different sizes and carved textures. Be sure to use bangles made from the same material to achieve the look.
