5 Expensive Jaeger-LeCoultre Watches

With a history tracing back to 1833, Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the oldest watchmakers still in business. In nearly 200 years of operation, the watchmaker has created some of the finest timekeeping devices and continues this tradition today. Keep reading to see five of the most expensive Jaeger-LeCoultre watches ever made.

5. Gyrotourbillon I — $404,000

With only 20 made a year, the Gyrotourbillon I is as elusive as it is expensive. With 679 parts, this timepiece features extraordinary complications. One of the most impressive is the tourbillon which, though primarily aesthetic, negates the effects of gravity on the movement for the most accurate timekeeping. Though very few are made, this piece does find its way to auction houses on the rare occasion, usually selling for around $400,000.

4. Atmos 561 by Marc Newson Clock — $425,000

Though not techincally a watch, the Atmos 561 deserves a mention. The Atmos clock is a unique and unusual because it does not require batteries, winding or electricity. The clock, developed in 1928, is powered by a mixture of gases, temperature and atmospheric pressure. This edition of the clock was redesigned by Marc Newson, an industrial designer recently involved Apple watch designs. Only 888 of the Atmos 561 by Marc Newson were issued. In a 2013 Sotheby’s auction, one sold for $425,000.

3. Reverso Complication a Triptyque – $600,000

The Reverso is one of the most iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre designs of all time. The original model had a dial that could flip to protect it from damage during laborious tasks. The Reverso Complication a Triptyque displays three versions of time on three unique faces. The watch displays civil time, sidereal time and perpetual time. This piece comes at a cost of $600,000.

2. Hybris Mechanica a Grande Sonnerie — $2.5 million

In 2009, this was the most complicated wristwatch, though the title has since been taken by Vacheron Constantin. In total there are 26 complications, including a perpetual calendar and unique chime function that mimics the chimes of Westminster. The timepiece also features an intricate, 1,300-part flying tourbillon and partially skeletonized case. With only 30 of these made, the watch will cost you $2.5 million.

1. Calibre 101 for Her Majesty the Queen — Price: Unknown

Im 2012, on the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, JLC gifted Her Majesty a calibre 101. The tiny watch was made as an homage the one she wore on the day of her coronation, which was also a JLC calibre 101. The calibre 101 is the smallest watch movement ever made, weighing less than one gram. The case is surrounded by a bracelet of diamonds set in white gold as an elegant example of haute joaillerie from the watchmaker.

Beginning of a Brand: Jaeger-LeCoultre Watches

Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the oldest and most prestigious watch manufacturers today with a history stretch back nearly two centuries. In 1833 Antoine LeCoultre started his watchmaking business in the Swiss town of Le Sentier in Vallee de Joux. Vallee de Joux, the birthplace of Swiss horology, is home to some of the finest watchmakers in Switzerland, including Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet.

Antoine was completely dedicated to refining and improving the watchmaking and timekeeping. In 1844 he developed the millionometer, which allowed him to measure micrometers, or one thousandth or a millimeter. In 1847 he further improved watchmaking once again with the crown winding mechanism, replacing the extraneous winding key. Though Jean-Adrien Philippe of Patek Philippe is also credited with this development, LeCoultre’s crown is now the standard. This is because LeCoultre’s crown also allowed the adjustment of the watch hands.

By 1860, LeCoultre was producing all parts of watches in-house and providing complicated movements, chronographs and calendar movements to other watch manufacturers. In the early 20th century, LeCoultre was the leading watch manufacturer in the Vallee de Joux. In 1903, the watchmaker had produced the flattest movement, and in 1929 produced the smallest watch movement, weighing less than a gram.

In 1903, LeCoultre met French watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, whom brought the Swiss watch company to the luxury market. By 1937, the company name was officially changed to Jaeger-LeCoultre Watches. Jaeger was mostly involved in design work while LeCoultre produced the highest quality movements for the duo. The movements used in these watches are considered some of the best and other top watch manufacturers have also used Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, including Cartier, Audemars Piguet and Panerai.

Pantone’s 2016 Color Trend Report

In December, Pantone Color Institute announced its 2016 color trend report and named the 2016 colors of the year. Usually, each year only sees one pick for the title, but this year was an exception with two colors announced.

The trend forecast is determined each year by a panel of color experts at the Pantone Color Institute in New Jersey. The institute considers itself to be the global color authority and employs experts to observe the trends from fashion designers, street styles, interior design and many more sources throughout the world to determine the trends for the upcoming seasons.

This year, Pantone chose two colors instead of the usual single shade. Last year, they chose the wine-colored marsala, a reddish-brown found throughout the fashion and design world in 2015. The Institute said that the choice of the two colors — rose quartz, a dusty pink, and serenity, a sky blue — is reflective of a departure from gender-based color associations in the fashion and design world.

They say the two colors, typically associated with particular genders, will be mixed in both menswear and womenswear. The combination of the colors was seen in menswear and womenswear collections from designers like Chanel, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Valentino.

The rest of the color forecast for spring 2016 is called “A Transportive and Transformative Canvas.” Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute Leatrice Eisman said, “Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.” The palette is said to reflect a desire for calmness in an industrial and technology-filled world.

The colors were largely inspired by shades found in nature, from earthy neutrals to colorful florals and plant shades. While many of the shades take on a more subdued, pastel tone, there are more energetic shades like the vibrant snorkel blue and luminous buttercup. The colorful collection is the ultimate, refreshing spring palette that is sure to have a shade for everyone.

4 Ways to Wear the Latest Trends

So, you’ve spotted a new trend on the runway by your favorite designer, but what now? Sometimes it’s difficult to find the right piece for your everyday wardrobe when looking to fashion week for inspiration. Oftentimes, the piece worn isn’t easily available either, adding to the stress. We took four of our favorite trends and chose the perfect piece for the new season and the new trends.

1. Frill and Filigree
[gemstone chandelier] [Chanel drop] [pearl and enamel drop] [RG floral]

This season you will see elaborate earring designs featuring pearls, filigree and other intricate designs. Try out the statement earrings style with floral motif. If you aren’t sure what color to wear, try adding in one of the trending colors for the springtime season.

2. Springtime Florals
[VCA necklace] [floral earrings] [John Hardy cuff] [diamond floral necklace]

Spring has always symbolized rebirth and floral motifs have always been the perfect representation. Try out a beautiful and detailed necklace with a floral edge. The floral trend can also be combined with other trends, like a floral station collar necklace or colorful, floral statement earrings.

3. Modern metals — Silver Is In
[Hermes bracelet] [DY cable bracelet] [Hermes necklace] [Tiffany lock necklace]

Modern edge is in this season and silver is the perfect shade to compliment the style. Metal hardware-inspired looks are trending on the runways. You can get this look with any piece featuring a buckle, hook, chain or lock.

4. Length In Numbers
[Chanel pendant] [runway necklace] [Tiffany feather lariat] [Tacori quatrefoil pendant]

This is a trend with a lot of options. Whether you layer your favorites — big or small — all that matters is length. Make the trend work for your style. If you have a laid back look, layer a thin chain with a small pendant. If you like to make a statement, go bold and extremely oversized.

Spring 2016 Jewelry Trends From the Runways

We are resolving to step up our style in 2016 and this season it’s all about the perfect accessory with a surprising twist. Big or small, you need to have the right piece to take your look to the next level. In search of the best trends, we swept the Spring 2016 runways so you didn’t have to — check out our favorite trends from top designers around the world.

1. Collars

Last year, the choker ruled the runway, but this year we’ve seen a slight change to the old-school style. Designers have loosed up the hold, and dropped the necklace a few inches to the collarbone. We’ve mostly seen pieces in this look to make a statement themselves. With pendants, gemstone embellishments or a central stone, these pieces are typically unique in design.

We saw the look in the Spring 2016 collection from Dior, Valentino and Bottega Vaneta. Our personal favorite was the unique collar from Bottega Veneta. We loved the casual, abstract camo prints combined with the urban-looking collar.

2. Modern Metal

Chains were a major trend in 2014 and 2015, but now the look is expanding to even more metal looks. The runway was full of buckles, chains and locks, taking the chain trend away from 80s’glam to an edgier style. This looks is tough with an edge of urban cool.

We saw chains and locks from Alexander Wang, buckles from Balenciaga and chains from Chanel. Our favorite look was from Chanel. The retro skirt suit was transported to the future with the metallic colors and, of course, the three-layer chain choker.

3. Length and Lariats

Layering has lengthened for 2016. Take your favorite layering techniques to the present by adding a bit of length to your favorite pendants. This trend is also the perfect chance to make a statement. Try an oversized pendant on a long chain, like we saw at Givenchy S/S 2016.

The look was interpreted by Calvin Klein, Chloe and Givenchy in their own variations, but Calvin Klein was our favorite. The Calvin Klein Collection was overall flowing and relaxed with a minimalist vibe. If that sounds like your style, then you’ll want to accessorize with a necklace that feels the same way, like a long, thin chain with one or two small pendants for a breezy look.

4. Baroque Beauty

Fall 2015, saw an upsurge in Baroque styles on the runway and the trend is transitioning into spring 2016. Overly embellished designs of pearls and filigree made it to the runway as well as a few more minimalist looks. The baroque style was also updated to meet the modern trends. Gucci took on the single earring trend with a long, baroque-style earring worn only on one ear.

We also the look from Alexander Wang with a darker twist and a sweeter springtime look from Balenciaga. Our favorite was from Gucci. The show was filled with a vintage and antique ornateness that carried over to the jewelry too. We loved the embellished and oversized chandelier earrings in baroque style.

Bangles are Back

Last year layering ruled and that translated to bracelet stacks. Now, it’s all about the statement bangle — stacking not necessary. We saw abstract designs from Celine and ornate bangles from Chloe. However, large and bold geometric bangles stacked still ruled the runways.

We saw this trend from Ralph Lauren, Marni and Isabel Marant. Our favorite was from Ralph Lauren. We loved the mono-toned look with a twist of different sizes and carved textures. Be sure to use bangles made from the same material to achieve the look.

2015 in Review: Best Sellers of the Year

Since 2015 is coming to a close, we reviewed the best-selling pieces of the year. The favorites are clear choices, and these timeless pieces will definitely remain on trend into the new year — the Love bracelet has been trending since the ’60s! Check out our favorites below for inspiration for your next purchase.

Men’s Watches:

The most popular men’s watches were also smart buys. These watches, many vintage, are ones that can remain part of your wardrobe for years while increasing in value over time. Rolex watches were the best-selling watch brand, and one of the most popular brands sitewide. Rolex watches also retain their value better than nearly any other watch brand.

Many of the Rolex styles have hardly been changed significantly for decades. This, combined with the quality of craftsmanship, makes a Rolex watch a long-lasting and ever-fashionable watch choice. The most popular models were the Datejust, Milgauss, Submariner, GMT-Master II and Day-Date.

Sports watches were also the watch of choice in 2015. From Omega we saw the Seamaster, Speedmasteer and Flightmaster as top choices. Omega watches were also one of the most popular choices in the vintage watch category. Vintage TAG Heuer watches were also a favorite, including the Aquaracer and Carrera.

Finally, towards the end of 2015, we saw an increase in the popular Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. This massive sports watch has had its distinct style since the early ’70s and it’s still increasing in popularity today.

Women’s Watches:

Women’s watches trended towards the more fashionable pieces in 2015. Looks that reflect the most recent trends were the style of choice for ladies, but there were still certain classic timepieces that stood up to the test of time. Cartier watches were the most classic choices and the most preferred were the Tank and Ballon Bleu styles.

The trendiest watch designer of the year was Michael Kors. As of late, his watches have been the must-have watch for women. His most popular styles include Bradshaw, Camille and Darci. Michele watches fall between Cartier and Michael Kors in price and style and the watch brand has been trending upwards since the start of 2015. The best-selling models are the classic Deco Diamond and the Urban Mini.

Jewelry:

If we could name 2015 anything else, we would call it “The Year of the Cartier Love Bracelet.” The iconic accessory was, without question, our best-selling item sitewide, especially in yellow gold. The entire Love collection was overall very successful this year. Love and trinity rings and the nail bracelet were all top sellers. Another Cartier staple deserving of an honorable mention is the panthere motif. Also from the French, Van Cleef & Arpels was also a fine jewelry favorite. Most popular: Alhambra bracelets and pendant necklaces in the clover motif.

Not far behind Cartier was Tiffany & Co. Favorites included the classic “Return to Tiffany” heart tag necklaces and bracelets and the Elsa Peretti Open Heart necklace. Another popular American desinger was David Yurman. Cable bracelets, Albion necklaces and Chatelaine earrings were the favorites of the year.

Finally, always a favorite, costume jewelry from chic designers was on trend. From Chanel, we saw massive logo earrings follow the statement earrings trends. The CC necklaces are always a jewelry-lover favorite. Brooches also made a comeback this year, and Chanel was the designer of choice for trying the trend. Finally, faux and bold pearls were a must-have and they took the form of drop earrings and multi-strand necklaces. Hermes also deserves a mention for their enamel bangles and clic clac bracelets.

Trending Watches at Every Price Point

Watches are more popular than they’ve ever been, and they are only getting bigger. Now, watches are the must-have accessory necessary for any look. We took a look at the current trending looks for men and women to make staying in style as simple as possible. Check out the best trends for the season at every price point.

Men:

1. Leather Straps

The leather strap is the ultimate go-to no matter what your style. If you like vintage, then a worn leather stap might be the perfect choice. If you like an understated piece, then a leather strap pairs well with a dress watch. Last, if you like to keep is casual and cool, then this is the right choice. The strap goes with nearly every watch style and gives a lighter feel than a traditional metal bracelet.

2. Classic Sports Watch

Some watch styles are a must-have for any collection and a classic sportswatch falls into this category. You will always need a casual, durable and reliable watch. Consider a watch with useful complications, like a chronograph with date and day. It’s also a bonus to have a water resistant watch. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer and Rolex Yachtmaster were two of out best-selling sports watches of the year.

3. Minimalist

If your style leans more silver and sleek, then this trend is perfect for you. A minimalist watch is contemporary and beautiful in its simplicity. For a beautiful, minimalist watch, you don’t have to sacrifice quality for style either. Some of the top watchmakers have mastered the art of simplistic watch design. Our favorite is the IWC Portofino with a mesh bracelet.

Women:

1. Colored Strap

Most watches have a plain face and simple strap, which is may not be the ultimate adornment to your look. That’s why we love the colored and patterned strap trend. We’ve seen a lot of people add a twist to their look with the perfect colored accent. Michele watches are perfect for this trend. Not only are the watches beautiful, but they are completely customizable. You can change out the strap with any color or pattern your heart desires.

2. Off the Runway

Trends are always set on the runway and watch trends are no different. If you are unsure of what watch is right for you, then check out watches from your favorite designers. Michael Kors has a popular line of watches with favorite styles like Camille and Bradshaw. For more unique pieces you can find watches from Versace and Chanel.

3. Rose Gold

Rose gold has had a moment this year and it looks like this is continuing into the new year. If you have trouble deciding between white and yellow gold, a subtle pink gold is a great compromise. The pink tone is feminine while also remaining neutral. It compliments any skin tone while also complimenting any color of your attire. We’ve yet to see a shade that rose gold doesn’t look good with.
